What to Expect
Monday Mahj at Kumbia is a social American Mahjong event designed for both brand new players and experienced players who play independently.
The evening is structured to allow everyone to enjoy the game in a way that feels comfortable and fun:
New Players
A dedicated New Player table will be set aside for those who are brand new to Mahjong or not yet ready to play independently. This table includes a Mahj 101–style lesson during the event, with guided instruction and support throughout.
Experienced Players
Experienced players will enjoy open play on designer Mahjong sets. This portion of the event is social and self-directed, allowing players to settle into their tables and play at their own pace.
Food, drinks, and extras
Your ticket includes shared, hearty Latin American appetizers provided by Kumbia. Happy hour drink pricing will be available throughout the evening.
Each ticket also includes a raffle entry — must be present to win.
Seating
If you’re attending with friends, you’ll have the opportunity to note seating requests at checkout, and we’ll do our best to accommodate them. Coming on your own? You’ll be seated with other players and warmly welcomed at the table.
For groups who prefer to sit together, a limited number of full tables are available for purchase.
Whether you’re learning the game or already love to play, Monday Mahj at Kumbia is meant to be relaxed, welcoming, and enjoyable — with great food, a lively atmosphere, and plenty of Mahjong.

New to Mahjong or still building confidence?
This ticket includes a 1.5-hour Mahj 101 class covering the fundamentals — tile names, reading the NMJL card, basic strategy, and how to begin forming hands — followed by guided play.
No prior experience required.

Coming with friends?
Reserve a full table for four players and guarantee seating together.
Full Table (4 players): $150 total — a small per-person savings compared to individual tickets.

💜 Player Levels Explained
New Player (“Mahj 101”)
For those brand new to Mahjong — you’ll learn the basics, including tile names, how to read the NMJL card, and how to begin forming hands.
Experienced Player
For players who can set up, play, and call Mahj independently without guidance.
In-Between Players (“Developing Confidence”)
If you’ve played before but still need occasional reminders or support, please register as an Experienced Player and note this in your seating request at checkout.
We’ll do our best to seat you with others at a similar level.
If you’d prefer more structured coaching, you may wish to take a Mahj 102 or Mahj 201 lesson first.

New Player Tickets — $60
Ideal for brand new players or those still learning the basics.
This ticket includes a 1½-hour Mahj 101 lesson with hands-on practice at a dedicated New Player table. We’ll cover tiles, racks, game flow, and how to start playing with confidence.
Instructional materials and loaner NMJL cards are provided.
Your ticket also includes heavy shared appetizers and a raffle entry.
All materials are provided — just bring yourself.
Experienced Player Tickets — $40

Includes open play on designer Mahjong sets, heavy shared appetizers, and a raffle entry in a lively, social setting.
🍴 Food & Drink
Your ticket includes heavy shared appetizers prepared by Kumbia.
Happy hour drink pricing will be available throughout the event, with drinks available for purchase from the bar. Additional food and beverages may be ordered directly from the venue.
💺 Seating Requests
Attending with friends? You’ll have the opportunity to note seating requests at checkout, and we’ll do our best to accommodate them.
Coming on your own? You’ll be seated with other players.
A limited number of full tables are available for purchase. Purchasing a table allows your group to play together and offers a small per-person savings compared to individual tickets.
📋 Refunds & Policies
All ticket sales are final and non-refundable.
If you’re unable to attend, you’re welcome to transfer your ticket to a friend — just email Jennifer@MahjOverMatter.com so we can update our list.
Events begin promptly, so please arrive during the check-in window to ensure seating.
In the rare case of event cancellation, all ticket holders will receive a full refund.
