Why This Night Matters
September is World Alzheimer’s Month.
Monday Mahj With a Mission brings our Mahjong community together to support the Alzheimer’s Association and its work to advance research and provide care and support for people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementia.
This cause is personal to me. Alzheimer’s has affected my own family, including my aunt and cousin, so I know firsthand the impact this disease can have on individuals and the people who love them.
Mahjong is all about connection — gathering around a table, engaging with one another, and sharing an activity we enjoy. This September, we have an opportunity to turn that connection into something even more meaningful.
By playing together on September 28, we can help support the Alzheimer’s Association and its work toward a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.

Open Play Ticket
For players who are comfortable jumping into a game using the NMJL card.
Enjoy an evening of Mahjong in a lively, social setting — while supporting the Alzheimer’s Association during World Alzheimer’s Month.
We’ll do our best to incorporate beginner-friendly tables for players who are still building confidence.

💜 Player Levels Explained
Mahj 101 (Beginner Lesson)
For those brand new to Mahjong or looking for a refresher. You’ll learn the basics, including tile names, the Charleston, how to read the NMJL card, and how to begin forming hands.
Open Play
For players who can set up and play independently using the NMJL card.
Building Confidence?
If you’ve played before but would feel more comfortable at a beginner-friendly table, please complete the Beginner-Friendly Table Request Form after registering.
This helps ensure there’s enough interest to form these tables and allows for thoughtful table placement.
You’re also welcome to arrive a bit early for a quick refresher on setup, dealing, and the Charleston.
During Open Play, this is not a coached event, but we’ll do our best to seat you in a way that supports your comfort and confidence.
If you’re looking for more structured guidance, you may wish to take a Mahj 102 or Mahj 201 lesson.
Our goal is always to match you with the right table for your comfort and enjoyment!

Optional Setup Refresher for Open-Play Players (arrive early): 5:45 PM
For those who would benefit from a quick review of setup, dealing, and the Charleston.
Check-In & Mingling: 6:00 – 6:30 PM
Raffle tickets available for purchase
Event: 6:30 – 8:30 PM
• Mahj 101 mini-lesson for new players
• Open play for independent players
Raffle Drawing: 8:15 PM — must be present to win

Parking is available in the surface lots and garages throughout Rockville Town Center, including nearby at Trader Joe’s.
🍴 Food & Drink
Your ticket includes a selection of shared appetizers prepared by Kumbia.
Kumbia’s full dinner and bar menu will also be available for individual purchase, including drinks at happy hour pricing.
Please note: Kumbia is not a kosher restaurant, and menu substitutions are limited to what is available in-house. If you have dietary restrictions, please email jennifer@mahjovermatter.com in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
💺 Seating Requests
Attending with friends? There is space at checkout to list who you’d like to sit with. We’ll do our best to accommodate seating requests.
Want to guarantee a table together? A limited number of Full Table (4 Players) tickets are available.
Purchasing multiple individual tickets? Please include your guests’ names in the Guest Information field so we can greet everyone properly at check-in.
📋 Refunds & Policies
All ticket sales are final and non-refundable.
If you’re unable to attend, you are welcome to transfer your ticket to a friend. Please email Jennifer@MahjOverMatter.com with their name so we can update our list.
Events begin promptly — please arrive during the check-in window to ensure proper seating.
In the rare event of cancellation, all ticket holders will receive a full refund.
